According to the government data of 2015 more than 20,000 people lost their lives in hit-and-run cases. According to the road transport ministry data, the average percentage of hit and run cases in 2015 was 10.9, but the percentage increases to 11.4 in 2016. It is statistically proven that 17 lives are lost per hour in our nation; more than 54% people got killed between the age group of 15 to 35 years.
Recently a case of hitting is spotted in the capital, where a two-and-a-half year old girl got injured badly and she is also facing difficulty in hearing. Victim Aashika who was walking on the road was hit by a car and driver dragged the girl for at least 100 meters in Delhi’s posh Vasant Kunj.As per the CCTV footage police came to know that Aashika was hit by a Maruti Echo car, she fell under the car and was then dragged. People shouted and ran after the car to catch the driver. When the driver stopped the car, people grabbed out Aashika from under the car and rushed her to the trauma centre at the capital’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
The driver has been identified as Rupesh Mishra. He was beaten up by the crowd that gathered and was handed over to the police. Rupesh drives the car for a factory near Vasant Kunj.
According to the police statement, they let him go as the police know his work place and Rupesh agreed to cooperate with the investigation. After getting over with the CCTV footage Rupesh was found guilty and was arrested by the police. He has been charged with rash driving and causing injury and endangering the life of another person.Doctors have operated on both ears of Aashika. Now Aashika has been discharged from the hospital. According to her parents, she will need to follow-up treatment for some time.
