Backing myriads of complaint that have been recently filed by the residents, the excise department of Delhi government has directed restaurants-cum-bars to cease the playing of recorded music.
The department cited ‘Delhi Excise Rules 2010’ that permits only live gigs by professionals at restaurants-cum-bars. The violators will consequentially have to face severe actions. These orders, have spared hotels and clubs.
One of the officials has said that there has been no complaint against hotels and pubs but in future if any such complaint is filed against them, they may issue same orders for them as well. Reports reveal that there are around 800 restaurants-cum-bars in the city that have the license to serve liquor, and many of them are in residential or commercial areas. The complaints that have been filed include that with the motive of attracting more visitors and to entertain them, these restaurants play loud music leaving the locals exasperated and agitated.
The official made it clear that ideally, in hotels and pubs the use of mikes should be avoided but in case it is extremely necessary then they should keep it under check that the voice is not elapsing the premises. He also added that “the department enforcement wing will carry inspection to ensure that the directions are followed by the restaurant & bars.
