NEW DELHI: The Janakpuri West-Kalkaji Mandir section of the Magenta Line will minimize the travel time between Gurugram and Noida and has limited it to 50 minutes. The metro will become operational from May 29.
The new section, which has 16 stations, is 25.6km & will make the entire 38.2km Line functional. At both ends, it will connect with the Blue Line (Dwarka-Noida/Vaishali) and make a ‘ring’ around south, west, central and east Delhi. The corridor will reduce the congestion on the Blue Line.
The new stretch will be flagged off by Union Minister for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and chief minister Arvind Kejriwal from the Nehru Enclave station on May 28.
The Janakpuri West-Kalkaji Mandir section is probably the longest Delhi Metro corridors that have been opened for public. This is not the only first to Magenta Line’s credit, it is also going to be the first one to witness ‘driverless’ train technology. DMRC will be introducing smart card vending machines for the first time, starting from three stations of the corridor that are Botanical Garden, Janakpuri w, and Terminal 1-IGI Airport.
The magenta line metro station would provide two new interchange facilities at Janakpuri West, one being Dwarka-Noida/ Vaishali that comes under Blue Line and Hauz Khas with the HUDA City Centre and Samaypur Badli that are of the yellow line. Commuters will face convenience as they will not have to change metro Rajiv chowk instead they will now be able to change trains at Hauz Khas.
Out of the total duration of a 25.6km section, 23km is underground and the rest is elevated. Except for Sadar Bazar metro station and Shankar Vihar stations, all are underground. The new corridor is expected to reduce congestion on the Rajiv Chowk Metro station.
