Delhi Commission for Women had summoned brothel owners of GB road as Instances of human trafficking of underage women has been found. On Thursday, 125 summons to the owners were issued by DCW. The commission has asked these brothel owners to appear between September 21 and 24, along with their original identity proofs. GB road is Delhi’s ill-famed red light area, has approx 15,000 women living with more than 1,000 children.
These brothels were raided by Delhi Police since past two decades, the maximum being in 2012, when the area was raided 23 times and 49 women were rescued. But this little amount of women who were rescued hasn’t resolved the problem as there are thousands of women being trafficked across the country and many dwells here.
“GB road in Delhi has become a hub for human trafficking especially in case of minor girls who are brought here from different parts of the country and are subjected to rape. They are treated with enormous inhuman conditions and are exploited tremendously,” said Swati Maliwal, DCW CHIEF.
A DCW team led by Legal Counselor Princy Goel and Mobile Helpline Coordinator Kiran Negi served the summons to the owners of brothels.
