On Friday, Power Minister Satyendar Jain said that Delhi will be having around 1,000MW of clean energy, which will cause a decrement on fossil fuel. Satyendar Jain concluded that after six months of discussion, all three discoms and the power ministry have decided to switch to the green energy. He further added in his statement that his department has also approved the subsidies for solar pumps for Delhi farmers.
According to the Central PSU Solar Energy Corporation of India, the tender process will be initiated in the next three months. The solar panels will be set up everywhere in the country, but Delhi will only buy the power.
“This process will take around 1 to 1.5 years for its completion. We are not only trying to meet the increasing demand, but also doing it in an eco-friendly manner,” Jain concluded.
According to the reports of Industry experts, Delhi currently has sources around 100MW of its total power demand from solar generation units through PTAs and net metering by the users. The estimated cost will charge around Rs 3 per unit, lowering the conventional energy will cost around Rs 5.5 on an average. Jain said that “Around 1.5 years back, when we were trying to execute the project, the estimated cost was around Rs 6-6.5 per unit,”
The minster has decided for providing additional subsidy to Delhi’s farmers for installing solar pumps to lower their costs. Approximately thousands of agricultural connections are being used for the boring work. Most of these agricultural connections are in north and west Delhi.
