Delhi police is now set to have unique Women only squad by selecting women who were already a part of constabulary and had undergone their commando training.
The Delhi Police to induct 40 women at least into their Women squad providing them with Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. It would largely be dedicated to anti-terror operations and teaching them how to tackle hardened criminals. The selected women team would be soon given SWAT training.
- In another phase of training, these women will be given training specifically to deal with Delhi like climbing multi-storeys and structures within few seconds to rescue hostages from different situations, and from DTC bus or the metro.
- The squad will be given mock drills armed with Glock pistols, hand grenades, MP-5 sub-machine guns and Kalashnikov rifles along with their male counterparts as their backup. This squad team will be stationed at important locations near Lutyens’ Delhi, with an anti-terror unit Parakram.
- Women SWAT commandos will be equipped with AK-47 rifles, Glock 17 or 26 pistols, MP5 machine guns, and corner shot devices for enhancing their night vision. Also, they will be given Krav Maga, a self-defense system training which is originally developed for the Israel Defense Forces.
These new women commandos will be also equipped with a pencil torch, bulletproof jacket, bulletproof helmet, a cutter and a commando dagger. They would also have supposed to wear special elbow and knees pads for their physical protection during covert operations.
“Physical fitness, mental strength and expert weapon handling are key to their survival in combat…each of them are trained to shoot and kill using one shot,” said a police officer.
