The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to increase the fares again. In this case the Central and Delhi governments are accusing each other. Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the fares of the metro were increased by the Union Government, while the Central Government argued that fares were increased after getting the green signal from Delhi Government. Mr. Arvind Kejriwal has given a directive to the Chief Secretary to call for an immediate meeting of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Board. In this meeting officers of the Transport Department of Delhi Government will be called.
The fare has been increased twice this year. The Delhi Government believes that people will now definitely tend to use their personal vehicles instead of public transport that may increase the pollution level in the capital city and other places near Delhi. So far one lakh Metro passengers have been reduced since the rent was raised in May. Increasing the rent will directly affect the pockets of common people and they will reduce the use of metro.
