NEW DELHI: Women who must stay outside their house at late hours in South Delhi don’t have to be hesitant in approaching cops for help now. Delhi Police is deploying 600 all-women patrol squads on Wednesday. Delhi police will soon launch motorcycle squad named RAFTAR to ensure the safety of women. These teams will prominently patrol vulnerable stretches in South Delhi with a special focus on busy areas.
- The objective is to make women feel safer in the national capital. Cops will not only help fight crime but also interact with girls on streets to ensure that they feel secure.
- The initiative is police commissioner Amulya Patnaik’s endeavor to give women important roles in critical security system. He ensured that women are inducted into what is traditionally seen as male parapets. Patnaik said, “We have zero tolerance on negligence in women’s safety cases,”.
These measures are taken to reduce the gap between police and women citizens. As stated by TOI, Delhi Police’s chief spokesperson Dependra Pathak said: “We are taking steps to ensure that women feel safe and comfortable in coming forward with their complaints,”. The forces that are keeping hawk eyes on the crime of Delhi are using technology to ensure women’s safety. Women can remain in touch with police using their smartphones via Himmat Plus and QR codes in taxis.
