A new circular metro corridor, connecting South and North-West Delhi will be starting and get into work today i.e., Wednesday probably by evening for the public.
This metro route covering Majlis Park and Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus will be the part of a longer 58.9-km “ring corridor”, which will be considered as the longest metro line in the country, when it gets completed.
- The newly inaugurated pink metro corridor will later turn Delhi Metro network into a complete web by connecting various existing radial corridors at 10 different interchange points. It also includes the Airport Express line at Dhaula Kuan station.
- It is believed that Delhi currently has 12th biggest metro network in the world. However, it is being inferred that till the end of this year 2018, Delhi is expected to add 100 km of metro lines, making its metro network the 8th largest in the world.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation spokesperson Anuj Dayal stated that
“By June of this year, a majority of the ongoing Phase-III expansion would be opened to the public”.
This line would be especially beneficial for Delhi University’s South and North campuses as well. They will finally get a connectivity directly via public transport. The Durgabai Deshmukh station is near South Campus is expected to become a main transport hub after the running of pink circular metro as it will also relate to existing Airport Express line station at Dhaula Kuan.
Same as the recently inaugurated magenta line metro link, this pink line will also have driver-less technology. It will be the second Delhi Metro corridor which is to be operated using the CBTC signaling technology. CBTC stands for Communication Based Train Control which facilitates movement of trains with a frequency of 90 to 100 seconds.
There will be a huge reduction in the travel time of travelers from at least 18 to 30 minutes as there will be no more need to go to the city center to change lines significantly for the city’s suburbs commuters.
