NEW DELHI: A group of Hindu students of Jamia Millia Islamia raised provocative and incendiary slogans regarding Mohammad Ali Jinnah in the campus on Tuesday, which resulted in commotion at the campus gates. The incident followed the incident that has taken place at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Uttar Pradesh over the presence of a portrait of Jinnah in their campus.
Around 30 people marched to protest with anti-discrimination slogans, saying “discrimination against Hindu students”, and the “presence of Jinnah lovers” in the campus. The protesters reached the Jamia campus around 5.30 pm, raising slogans like ‘Jinnah premi desh chhoro’ and ‘Hinduon ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan’ told Mohammad Tasleem, one of the student onlooker. There were reports saying that few students got angry at the allegations that the people at Jamia disrespect the Hindu students. This confusion further transmuted into an argument and a tussle took place.
Some student’s protesters were from Jamia while most of them were outsiders. Laraib Ahmed, a second-year master’s student.
Said that “Exams were going on in the university, and their motive was to disrupt the ambiance. many students later assembled at one of the gates of campus in solidarity raising slogans against the ‘outsiders’ who came to the campus. Tasleem said, “Any Jamia student who was part of the protest, intending to malign the secular name of Jamia, should be banned from the campus.”
Over this, the Jamia administration suggested to maintain the campus peace, so there is no obstruction during exams. And since the incident took place outside the gates of the campus, nothing lies at the hand of administration and they we can’t do anything.
