A senior accounting officer at Vikas Sadan near south Delhi’s INA market, fell from the building’s third floor, supposedly after losing his balance. On Wednesday evening the 57-year-old man, identified as Suresh Chand Sharma was coming down the stairs when he slipped due to the construction material lying around. There were no railings to provide support, consequently, Sharma fell approximately 50ft into the basement. He was Immediately taken to hospital where he was declared dead.
Police investigated that the building was undergoing renovation and lacked safety arrangements. Also, there were no barriers to block access to the floor. Cops told they registered the case under IPC sections of death due to negligence against the contractor for his ignorance and carelessness. The building’s security guard, Mahato, informed cops about the details of the incident taking place around 5:30 pm On hearing some commotions near the lift as if something heavy has fallen from a great height, Mahato went there to investigate. He said “I saw a man lying in the basement. He had apparently fallen from the third floor where new tiles are being put on the stairs,”
the has been visited by A forensic team later to collect evidence. CCTV footage was retrieved to ascertain the sequence of event. Cops are also probing if someone else was present with Sharma at the time of the incident. Police informed that proper & relevant investigations are going on keeping in mind all aspects.
