NEW DELHI: Parking your vehicles in Delhi, near your home or outside, will be no freer. According to new rules that are to be notified soon, roadside parking in residential societies will be chargeable.
LG Anil Baijal on Wednesday revised the Delhi Maintenance and Management of Parking Rules, prepared by the transport department. The meeting was attended by transport minister Kailash Gahlot and senior officials of the department and traffic police.
Rates for parking on demarked public roads in residential areas will be settled by the respective civic agency in consultation with RWAs. If you have building with stilt parking but you still park on the street, the charges will be high than the normal rate. According to the new rules, which give emphasis to the draft parking policy prepared by the department. Stating that parking rates will be fixed by a `base parking fee committee’ headed by the transport commissioner. The rules will be soon notified.
A major feature of these coming up laws is that on-street parking for the first hour will be priced at least twice as much as off-street parking. The main stress behind these laws is to minimize traffic. Everyday Delhi is facing jams, especially in Delhi shopping markets and near restaurants in Delhi. There will be a hike in charges every hour to discourage long duration of on-street parking and will be thrice that of off-street parking. Moreover no surface parking will be allowed soon within 500 meters of a multi-level stack parking.
