Parmish Verma, the Punjabi singer was all set to perform on the second day of Rhapsody which is the annual cultural festival of Maitreyi College, Delhi University. But, the event turned out to be possibly the worst due to poor management at the fest when the chaos ensued. The fest was being regarded as the biggest DU fest so far, this season.
The situation went out of control even before the singer arrived. It worsened further when the singer reached the college and started performing. It was after 40 minutes of the performance that the crowd stopped listening to Parmish’s requests to calm down. The singer was left with no choice but to walk out midway during the fest.
The performance was expected to start by 3PM. But, the singer was two hours late at the college. The entry gate was reopened at 2:15PM which was closed for the students around 2PM.
There was so much of the chaos outside the college that almost 200 students entered the college from its back gate along with Parmish’s car at around 5PM. The crowd occupied the front stage area which was vacant for photographers, students’ union members and volunteers.
The singer repeatedly kept asking the students, “Thank you for calling me here. Sab badhiya hai na? Please kisi ko dhakka mat do,”. As Parmish began singing his popular track Gaal Ni Kadni, the crowd broke the barricades and started running towards it. While all of this was happening, the singer requested the crowd to not push each other.
