A massive fire broke out at a northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar paying guest accommodation on Saturday. Twenty-one-year-old Kriti and 6 others tremble as they relive their 30 minutes of horror when a massive fire broke out in the PG.
- Kriti, a civil services aspirant recalls her depression as she was talking about the incident with TOI. The incident happened on the first floor of the four-storey house even. She even added that the blaze engulfed on the floor below.
- The fire officials received a call at around 4:30 PM. They then sent two tenders immediately pressed into action. Another fire tender was sent at the location when the blaze couldn’t be brought under control with the two fire tenders sent before. At around 5:30 PM, the fire was finally doused off.
It was a short-circuit in an air conditioner on the ground floor that led to the fire blaze. The electricity meters burst out due to the excessive heat. This left with no room for the women to escape. The smoke engulfed the entire house, as they tried to figure out the escape. But, there was nowhere to go. One of the neighbor tried to find his way in to help, but couldn’t do much because of the smoke. Rushing to the back door, the girls managed to jump on to a ladder that a policeman ha placed there after breaking a window.
This incident has left the women in a state of shock. A case of negligence had been registered against the owner of the house, said a senior police official.
