Real Life ‘Hindi Medium’: Delhi Businessman Fakes Economic Status to Get Son Seat in Top School

Delhi Businessman Fakes Economic Status to Get Son Seat in Top School

A Delhi-based businessman faked poverty like the Bollywood movie ‘Hindi Medium’ couple and was arrested by police after he used fake information to get his son a seat in Delhi’s Sanskriti School of Chanakyapuri in the quota for economically weaker sections.

He not just faked his economic status by using certificates that includes residence proofs and Income Tax return but also provided false EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) certificates.

  • On the other hand, Goel had told the school that his annual income was Rs 67,000 and that he was a resident of Sanjay Camp slum, as his address in the documents. The incident took place in the year 2013, the authorities didn’t suspect any foul play until Goel requested the school to change his address from Sanjay Camp Slum to Safdarjung Enclave which is a posh colony in Delhi. The suspicions further raised when he applied for the admission of his second child under the sibling quota and told them that that they could shift his elder son from EWS category to general as his economic status had gradually improved.

Goel was arrested from his home in Jawahar Nagar, near Kamla Nagar in north Delhi. The cops are trying to find out who helped him in forging the fake documents. They even found out that he not just owns a MRI lab but also has a wholesale business for selling pulses and has travelled to more than 20 countries.

Interestingly, Gaurav Goel’s story is surprisingly like the plot of Bollywood movie Hindi Medium.
