A man aged around 42 died while trying to save his mother trapped inside. It all happened when a fire broke out at their shop and later spread to their house. The incident took place in northeast region of Delhi’s Maujpur on Friday morning.
- The police said, Harish Kumar the who died was on the first floor when the fire started. Whereas, his mother was on the ground floor. Other four family members were also found seriously injured.
- The fire commenced at around 5 AM, when a police team and two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. In an interview with Times of India, the family members of the dead said, it was after the initial blaze was doused, a fresh fire erupted. The injured were identified as Amrit Devi (the mother, aged 67), Ghanshyam (Kumar’s nephew, 27), Neha (Ghanshyam wife, 29) and their two sons, Abhinav (8) and Anant (5).
Kumar’s other nephew, Prince said, “I got to know about the fire a few minutes after it broke out. My uncle’s body was charred beyond recognition”.
The police told our reporter, Kumar lived on the first floor with his wife and children. Whereas, Ghanshyam resided on the second floor with his family. One of the neighbour noticed the fire and alerted Kumar about the fire. It was Kumar’s wife who left for a morning walk leaving the water motor switched on. This triggered the blaze in the shop.
Kumar rang up Ghanshyam and asked him to take everyone to the terrace. While, he himself rushed downstairs to help his mother.
